Supreme Court slams tendency to misuse legal provisions in s 498A dowry allegations

In GHANSHYAM SONI VERSUS STATE (GOVT. OF NCT OF DELHI) (SUPREME COURT) (2025 INSC 803), the Court condemned the growing tendency to misuse legal provisions of section 498A. It held that the Courts should be careful in proceeding against the distant relatives in crimes pertaining to matrimonial disputes and dowry deaths. The relatives of the husband should not be roped in on the basis of omnibus allegations unless specific instances of their involvement in the crime are made out.
